- There is a fort in Knockfierna about two miles outside the village of Ballingarry. Long ago a race of people came to conquer Ireland known as the Thuata De Danann. After a while the Melesians came to drive out the De Dananns. They defeated them and the De Denanns disappeared into hills and valleys and it is thought that they became fairies.
