  1. In the district of Caherhennessy there lived a girl named Mary Morrissy. She lived with her widowed mother. They owned a little farm and in it was a spring well. One day after she had taken her dinner she drove the cow to the pond beside the well to drink. Being a long time away her mother grew impatient and went in search of her. She found her sleeping by the well and took her home. The girl sat by the fire and got suddenly ill. Her countenence became like that of a witch with long teeth
