  1. Long ago a funny old man went to Limerick to buy shoes. He went into a shop and asked for shoes. The shoes were hanging outside the door. He paid for them and then went out and took the shoes down from their hanging-place, and then ran off with them. The corner-boys saw him and ran after him. They told the police and he was arrested. Next day he was taken before the judge, but when he showed the court the receipt for the shoes he was left off that moment.
