Bowl playing was a favourite pastime locally in years gone by and the bowling took place generally between Brownings and Garrouse bridge. It consisted of jerking with the right hand a circular piece of iron. Two or four players were engaged and the person or persons that sent the bowls furthest were victors. 2. Bruree may boast of many tales,
Her castles hills and fairy dales.
But above them all I think it seems
She picks more pride in her hurling team.

    (II)
    A plucky, brave, daring lot,
As true a team as could be got.
Strong and hardy as well as fast.
Able to hold their own to the last.
