Half a loaf is better than no bread.
- Churning is not carried on in this district at the present time, but 60 or 70 years ago when there were no creameries butter were made in all the farmers houses. They had no separators in those days. When the cows were milked the milk was left in flat tins in the dairy for twelve or fourteen hours. The milk was then skimmed. That is, the cream was taken off the milk and put in the cream-tub. After two or three days the butter was(continues on next page)
