    He would live where the birds would die. This saying is applied locally to anybody who is reputed to be very mean or miserly.
    When some of the older people in this district meet a newly married man or woman of the neighbourhood they sometimes say "What about my four pence". The tradition at the back of that saying is that if newly married people do not give away something they will be unlucky.
    A fat kitchen makes a lean will.
