  1. In olden times it was a custom to leave the fire lighting and the table laid with food, for it was said that the old people who were gone would come back to partake of the Christmas feast.
    It was also a custom to leave the door unlocked on Christmas Night as the Holy Family might come looking for shelter. Some say the child Jesus visits every house that night.
