  1. Children in the district go barefoot in Summer only. Water used for washing the feet is thrown out, if it was not, a coal from the fire was thrown into it. If a member of the family was out, the feet water was not thrown out till that person returned. Children had an idea at one time, if the feet water was not thrown out the fairies would come during the night and make them get up to throw it out.
    Boots are not made or repaired locally, as there are no shoemakers in the district or have not been for years.
