  1. Hedge-Schools.
There was a hedge school at the South side of Mr. McCann's house on Hartnet's in the townland of Ahalin, in the parish of Clouncagh, Co. Limerick. Mr. Croke was the teacher. He was a native of the Parish. The class was held in the open air beside a hedge. There was another school at the Western side of Clouncagh Chapel. Mr. Croke was the teacher there also. Irish that was spoken then by the young and old.
