  1. About a mile and a half northwards from the town of Newcastle-West is an old tree, called the "Crooked Tree". It is situated on the roadside on the road to Limerick and it is growing out over the road in the shape of a man's arm. This old tree is known practically all over Ireland and it has many true historical stories in connection with it. Stories are told how many men were hung there long ago by the English soldiers.
