- People used to depend on local cures long ago because there were not many doctors there. The milk left after a ferret drinking some of it when given to a child was supposed to cure the whooping cough. In Ardagh there is a well and people with rheumatism went and paid rounds there long ago. Long ago a man was sick and was very bad. A woman was sent for and at half past eleven she came. At five minutes to twelve she cut up meat and put it outside the door in a plate. She took in the plate after twelve and the meat was gone. The man got all right but his nephew who was living with him was disabled after that.
