  1. Long ago a man lived in the parish of NewCastleWest. One night he was going home from town across some fields and it was dark and late. He met a little man with a red coat and cap. The man said he was a leprechaun. he caught hold of his coat and would not let him go although the Leprechaun asked him to do so.
The man said he would if he showed him where there was gold. The Leprechaun went with him into a fort. The man was told to dig a certain part of the fort. In his digging he got a port of gold. That fort is situated in Mr Cremin's [?] land and is still to be seen about on and a half miles from our school
