    The Leipreacan or Mermaid.
    There is no tradition of a leipreacan having his abode in my district, but the leipreachan is known as a little man who lives in some parts of Ireland. He wears a bright red jacket, and has a long white beard. His sole occupation is shoemaking and he is supposed to be the posessor of a large crock of gold. It is a tradition that if a person caught him, and demanded the crock of gold from him, that he would in due time surrender, but people who were fortunate in catching him, were unknown to themselves, made let loose their treasure by the swiftness of the little man.
    The mermaid is a sea creature with the head of a woman and the tail of a fish. She is seen combing her hair on the rocks in Ballybunion, before a drowning takes place.
