  1. There was a hedge school in Coole West . The Coole West hedge was the name of it. It was a small house and the teachers taught in it John Mahony was the teachers name . He came from Carrick . Some times the schools were carried on in the farmers houses. The teacher stayed in turn in every pupils house . The teachers were paid a penny a week by each pupils. English , Arithmetic , and Geography were taught in the schools
