  1. Potatoes are grown in our farm. The farmers in this district sow about threequarters of an acre each year but the amount sometimes varies. The farmers prepare the ground and it is not manured before it is turned up. Most of the potatoes are sown in ridges but some are sown in drills.
    At first the farmer stretches a long rope from top to bottom of the filed about two far away from the fence. Then he cuts the ground along the rope with a spade. Then he removes the rope four more feet at each end. He continues at this until he has it all cut.
    Then he turns the sod at each side. The plough is used when openes[?] opening drills and the spade when turning bán. Spades are bought in the shops now but in former times they were made in the forges.
