  1. The famine years were in eighteen forty six and eighteen forty seven. The people were very poor, because the potatoes failed, and the potatoes were the food of the people at that time.
    Often the people went out in the turnip gardens looking for the roots of the turnips to eat. Some of the people were so poor that they ate the grass.
    The people died on the road sides, and the survivors were so weak that they were not able to bury them. Some of the people were buried in trenches uncoffined.
    The English helped them, and sent money to them in the form of Relief, but they were not able to work they were too weak. The landlord of this district was Mr Studdert. He lived in County Clare. He was a very good man, and he did not ask the people to pay the rent but the rates. It is said that this man visited this district, and he went into Mr. Morgan, who was a tenant of his, and when he saw the poverty of the people he cried.
