  1. In the year 1883 a sailing vessel leaving Foynes with timber in it. It was a foggy morning and there was another steam boat coming up and it struck the vessel and it was only three minutes sinking. The captain and his wife and crew were saved and they were brought ashore. The name of this vessel was the "Gorgegna". My grandfather gave me the information and it was he that cut some of the timber that the vessel was carrying. I also got more information about burning. A big wood about a mile from Foynes was put to fire by people out from Limerick for the day . The wood was burning for three weeks. A good share of people were drowned here. Mick Buston a brother of Paddies was walking down the pier and tripped and fell into the water and was drowned.
