  1. There was a Hedge School in Loughal. The teacher Martin Mack was a grandfather of John Mack of Coal Hill Loughal. He was paid by the pupils, and he slept in the farmers' houses. In the Summer they had school in the open, but in the winter they had school in the farmers houses. I got the information from my grandfather, who was born and lived in Loughal for a time.
