- There was a great battle fought in Tenekilla between the Danes and the Irish. It was one of the biggest in County Limerick. Cromwell never came into this vicinity. Some people say Cromwell went back to England, and died there. Carew and his army came into this parish, and he killed sixteen hundred people in the woods of Clonleharde and he burnt the houses and corn. The only thing remembered in this district about Cromwell is the habit the old people had of saying "The curse of Cromwell on it or on you."
- The following are the stories of strange animals seen in the locality. Once upon a time a wicked woman lived in Barna. Every night after sunset she travelled from Barna to Annasprideh and everyone she met she killed him. The people were so afraid of her, that they told the priest. One night he went on the road, and met her, but she did nothing to him. He asked her what did she do that damned her, and she said that she killed an(continues on next page)
