- Local Place-names
Long ago people had different names for their fields. One field was called the 'Gillenochter', and another went by the name of 'Tor gorm' because there were many bushes in it. Still another was called the fort field as there was a big fort in it. Another goes by the name of "Tobar na Cluaneac" since there was a well in it. The long field was so called because of its great length.
Here are the names of other fields;-
'Coolroo' meaning red corner
High field is on a hill
'Culaheen' is surrounded by furze bushes.
Lougha is the name of another field near a river called 'Lough'
The Black field is very wet and marshy
The Well field has a well in it
The green field is nearly always green(continues on next page)- Collector
