- Games.The games played among children were "gobs". Five small stones were selected. They were, if possible round in shape, and were carried in the bag or pocket when going to school. In the evening coming home, a game of "gobs" on a green bank was a customary amusement.
One "gob" was put on the ground. Four were retained in the right hand. The player threw up the four, and tried to catch them, and the one on the ground. If successful, she was allowed to play one. That was number one of the game.
In number 2 the five were thrown out from the hand One was picked up, thrown into the air, and the two nearest on the ground and the one in the air were caught. Two were then laid aside and the same thing was done with the other two on the ground, and the one in the hand. Then one was thrown up and 4 on the ground caught as it came down.(continues on next page)
