  1. The Scrahan Maid.
'Twas on the banks of Scrahan*.
    There dwelt a comely maid.
And many is the young and airy heart.
    This fair one has betrayed.
She was loved by rich and poor.
    Though humble in her cot.
And her name I won't tell, but where she dwelt.
    Was always called the Lot.

God help the one who is so vile.
    To wander for her sake.
For if she does not love them.
I'm afraid their heart will break.
And love it is a killing thing.
And a pain that would break your back.
But I have compassion on none of them.
But my own poor brother Jack.
