  1. If it be true that then pen is mightier than the swords then the man, Gerald Griffen, of whom I shall write is well worthy of mention.
    Fairy Lawn the name of the house in which he was born and in which he and his family lived for a time is situated about three miles from Glin and overlooks the Shannon.
    Among his poems are "The Seagull" and his ode to his beloved Shannon,
    'Tis o'tis the Shannon stream etc.
    are very beautiful indeed.
    His poem "The Seagull" is said to have been composed on seeing a seagull flying over the cliffs of Moher.
    His novel "Collegians" has won much fame and is founded on the story of the "Capin Ban". He entered a Religous Order, but died at the age of 36.
