    Lo! the solemn hour is coming
    And the quaint, old-fashioned bell,
    Tolls above the waving tree tops,
    Ringing out the parting knell.

    And upon the summer air,
    Swift the hills give back the echoes
    Each a whispered dying prayer.

    Ere our eyes have seen the splendour
    Of the Consecration Day
    Let us pause awhile and listen,
    As the old chimes die away.

    Every vibrant note sends memories
    Thronging through the listening heart:
    Slow each lingering note is whispering:
    "We must sever - we must part.

    Wakens not the silent dead,
    As they sleep where once were altars
