“Mickey Shea was a blacksmith and he lived in Mullinahone...”
The following verses were given by Thomas Walsh, a hardware Assistant, aged 35 years who is attached to firm of ORiordan & Forrest, Middleton. He got them in Carrick-on-Suir exactly 20 years ago, and about that time, they were recited by the people there as "something new". The author is not known, though M. Walsh is convinced they were composed by a Carrick man. The theme would suggest the age of the verses at about 25 years, as then motor cars were being introduced into Carrick-on-Suir. He lately made a motor car, an invention of his own;
And when the neighbours heard of it, they came from near and far,
And gazed in mute astonishment, at Mickey's motor car. They stood in silence all around as Mick described his power,
"I think", said he, "she'll easily do one hundren miles an hour
The wheels I got from Doran, and I stuffed the tyres with straw
And I got my number right behind to satisfy the law"(continues on next page)
