- People used the plants that grew as cures for their ailments long ago. The leaves of the elm-tree were used as a cure for a burnt leg. The dandelion was also a great herb. It was boiled and the juice which was drink was a great cure for a heart ache. An herb by the name of out Lady's gloves was a great cure for a sore throat.
