- In this district there is one forge. It is conducted by Edward Collins and his nephew. Though this forge is not long in the Collin's family his ancestors have been in the trade in Cork city for many years. This forge is situated near cross roads and a small stream flows near. The building is an ordinary one having a rectangular door and a corrigated iron roof. Within are two fire-places; but the second one is used only, when he is engaged in shoeing wheels. The bellows is of the old-fashioned type having a long handle mounted on a beam.
Apart from shoeing horses, he does very little work of any other kind, and for this purpose he has the usual implements namely, the anvil, hammers, file, punch, tongs and chisel. Near at hand outside the building the wheels are shod; the reason for this being that a large circular stone(continues on next page)
