  1. In the parish of Carrigaline, Co. Cork, there is, situated in the townland of Carrigaline. East, in a large field called "The Twelve Acre Field", a very large brownstone rock about the size of a cottage. This rock is supposed to have been brought there by a giant from Cloyne. It is sheltered by hills all round, so it is quite impossible to see it from a distance; it is three fields from Carrigaline Castle.
During the Penal Days a priest used to say Mass on this rock. A traitor, who was unknown, told Cromwell and his agents where the priest said Mass. Cromwell sent his soldiers to watch him and promised to reward anyone, who brought his head. The priest was hunted by the soldiers, but was saved by some farmers, who lived near.
