    I wandered in a shady dell,
    Fairer than tongue or pen can tell,
    And paused beside a crystal well
    When shades of eve were falling.
    It was the glad time of the year,
    When all the fairest flowers appear,
    The sweetest music charmed the ear -
    A limpid streamlet brawling.
    I've roved through Erin up and down
    From Donegal to Knocknagown,
    Yet the sweet dell o' Rochestown
    Will claim my heart for ever
