    An Scolb
    Strip (gearaire) cut a few inches with strong knife. Then the strip or splinter was pulled off, by placing the scolb against the knee and pull off with right hand
    The grip for holding the bogdale splinter was called the bite (bier baidr)
    Before the introduction of paraffin and lamps this kind of instrument was in use for holding bog-deal splinters, also home-made candles, rush lights and pádógs. The bog-deal was torn in to thin strips about 2' long and about 1 in wide
