  1. Kilbehenny Castle was a castle of the O'Briens of Limerick. The lord of the castle in 1502 was Donough O'Brien whose descent is traced to King Brian of the Tribute. This Donough was lord of a territory from Adare to Limerick and from the parish of Kilkeedy to Bruff and was the chieftain of Aherlow and Kilbehenny.
    At some time towards the close of the sixteenth centruy the castle of Kilbehenny came into the hands of that traitor White Knight who sold his overlord the earl of Desmond.
    The White Knight in question died in Kilbehenny in 1608.
