The inscription on this monument is as follows.

Sacred to the memory of John
Edward Kelly a native of Kinsale
Co. Cork. who was captured in
Kilcooney wood on March the 31st 1867
    fighting along with his compatriots
    Peter ONeill Crowley and Captain
    Edward M'Clure.
    By religion a Protestant, by
nature a brave man, and by
    birth and principle a soldier
    of liberty.
Oh for a tongue to utter, the
    words that should be said
Of his worth that was silver.
living, that's Gold and Jasper dead.
