    in the earth, the potatoes are put into them. Then they are covered carefully with earth, straw, and the old stalks to keep out the frost.
    The local kinds of potatoes are Champions, Arran Banners, and Kerr's Pinks. These three kinds of potatoes grow best in this district. Potatoes were used as starch many years ago, but now of course, they are not used in that way.

  2. There are potatoes grown on my farm, each year, to the extent of two acres. The ground is first prepared by a man. Manure is not spread on the earth before being turned up. It is ploughed and harrowed for Spring.
