    other person that worked for the farmer was favoured with gifts, such as, ground to grow potatoes, a horse to cart these to his home or to bring coal and iron to his forge.
    The blacksmith was also looked on as the strong man and usually performed with success at local patterns, especially in weight-throwing. The forge was the great centre to hear the latest news. In the country district the smith's hob was never without its Seanchaidhe.
