  1. Burning of Lime
    At one period there was a kiln in every farm of 30 acres and upwards in this district. The lime stone was got locally but the culm which was necessary for its burning had to be carted a distance of 20 miles from a place called Dromach midway between Kanturk and Mallow. It is about 40 years now since any lime was burned and most of the kilns have fallen. A few remain in almost as good repair as when in use.
