    St Patrick was travelling through the country, and one hot day feeling thirsty went into an ale house for a drink of ale or beer.

    Twelve months afterwards he happened to pass the same way, and called again to see the woman. He asked again for a pint of beer or porter, and noticed that she filled the measure to overflowing. He remarked to her that the cat was not as healthy-looking as formerly, but that he was getting very thin.
    The woman said yes that the cat had fallen away very much since his last visit, and that she did not know the cause. The Saint took out his breviary, read for some time, and the cat vanished out the door in a flash of fire.
