  1. LOCAL POETS
    Another local poet a native of Freemount was named John Fitzpatrick. This many emigrated to America. Before leaving his home he was known to compose many poems. The following verses are taken from one of his pieces called:
    “Blind Johnny Quinn”
    When a youth in dear Freemount by Alow’s clear stream
    Of future achievements I often would dream
    But the present supplied me with plenty of joy
    I was a happy contented young boy.
    And the greatest of pleasures that I enjoyed then
    Was hearing the fiddle of Blind Johnny Quinn

    Oh he was an artist with fiddle and bow
