  1. There was once an old priest in the parish of Brosna and he had a clerk nearly as old as himself. The clerk had been with the priest so long that he had begun to think he could do everything as well as the priest. One day the priest was blessing Holy Water and the clerk was standing by when the priest stretched his hand for the salt the Clerk said "I threw it in myself - "Go away you stupid" said the priest and get me fresh salt. The clerk returned and handing it to the priest said "There tis for you now and make pickle of it if you like."
    The same old priest was ready to distribute blessed ashes one Ash Wednesday morning with the same clerk in
