- My father told me that Subulter House was the most popular in this district long ago.
A person named Warren lived there and he was so wealthy that he kept a pack of hounds. He had a fool attached to the family for amusement. During the period that the hunting season was closed he thought of a plan to amuse himself and his companions. He took the fool about five or six miles away from the house and stripped him and then rubbed him with oil and let him go about seven minutes away in front of the dogs. The fool ran for home with the dogs after him and was half way up the stairs again when he collapsed and it was only by giving him drinks of brandy and wine they saved him from death.
Another popular house in this district was Castlecor House a man named Squire Geal Freeman lived there and he paid a visit to the Knight of Glyn. The Knight of Glyn was showing him all the beautiful glens but he said that the nuts on the trees in Castlecor would fill them all. They had a a bet of a thousand pounds about it.(continues on next page)
