  1. In olden times there was no priest in this parish and the priest of Mourneabbey did duty in both parishes. Late one night he was called on to attend a sick call. He set out on horseback but was followed by a priest-hunter. The priest got on as fast as he could, but the priest-hunter was gaining on him and when he came near St. Abby's-Well, near Lombardstown, Co. Cork, he was overtaken by his enemy. He suddenly called on St. Abby to save him and at that moment a highwayman who was in hiding aimed at the priest hunter
