  1. My father told me I had a grand-uncle who was famous as a weight-thrower, at casting, jumping and vaulting. His name was Patrick Sheehan of Brittas. He was comparatively small in height, with broad shoulders, and great muscular arms. It appears he specialised in vaulting and casting. It is said that anything he could reach with his hands he could vault over, such as jumping on a horse's back from behind, no matter what size the horse may be. He was known to do this even when the horse was trotting.
