  1. Colonel Jephson, who built the new Castle in Mallow ran short of money before the building was completed.
    One day as he was walking in the ground on which the building was going on, and brooding on his difficulties, a stranger came up to him and asked him what was troubling him.
    When the Colonel made his troubles known the stranger told him he would supply him with all the money he wanted and that all he wanted in return was that he (Colonel Jephson) would keep a black cat for him until he would call for it.
