On some other occasion let us hope we'll meet Michael . A stroll to Park will well repay us.
This townland was once the property of Cronin Cottoman according to Mr. J. C. O'Herlihy ex N.T., P.C. now 70 years old and it later passed into the hands of the Pomeroys. One of the Pomeroy ladies married O'Connor from Abbeyfeale (Feale's Bridge) and as 'Connor Souper' he became the Landlord of Park. The sides of the road was planted between the centre of the village (as it is today) and for about 400 yards eastward (traces of wood are to be found in the Ordinance Map). This wood was in Knocknagree townland and perhaps the "Park" took its name from some big field or other to which the pretty wood lent a charm. On the way from the village of Knocknagree towards the Park houses we pass by the "pound" now happily a little grove of semi-grown firs. Moving eastwards on our right there is a slightly raised green sward in Denis Breens field-near-the-road. This sward marks the site of the home or cabin of Tadhg Stail Cronin - a hedge-school teacher. Tadhg had two crutches and he is still remembered (See Hedge-Schools Book I)
