    under the water but the owner of the cloak had to follow O'Shea to his house. Strange to tell they were married soon after. They reared children in their home but during all the years she was never seen to laugh. One day, when O'Shea was cleaning the house he threw the mermaid's cloak by accident out of the loft (where he had kept it safe from his wife). She grabbed it and ran towards the sea. O'Shea followed her on a white horse but she reached the sea before him. A huge wave arose and knocked O'Shea off his horse which was drowned. He was saved. Ever since by way of punishment from the sea-spirits any O'Shea cannot cross the sea at that place. (Several O'Shea's have been drowned in attempting
