    out his cows he saw a woman at the meeting of three rivers with a spancel in her hand. When she saw him she ran and left the spancel after her. He picked it up and took it home. His grandmother put it over the fire and forgot till she was making the churn. She found she had double her usual amount of butter. She took the spancel and burned it and had the usual amount of butter after.

    One May morning when a number of people were gathered together on the sands of Rossbeigh they saw a band of mermaids combing their long hair in the water. One of the mermaids had a cloak laid on the sand and a man named O'Shea saw it. He seized it and ran home with it. Then the other mermaids cried and disappeared
