  2. There was a hedge school in Caherbarnagh, and in Shrone.The teachers were fed in the houses of the pupils, and they used stay in the house of each pupil for a night. They had no books only slates and pencils. The language taught was English because the teachers would be prosecuted for teaching Irish. The pupils' parents used to pay the teachers, about two or three shillings from each parent. The school usually was an old disused out house.They had no benches or seats
