  1. Thatching
    All the houses in this district were thatching until a few years ago. Thatching a house is a trade in itself. There were three great thatchin in this district. Daniel Rahilly. Patrick Curtin and Michail Foley.
    When the house was roofed, they dug long scraraca [?] each scrair [?] 3 inches thick and 2 1/2 feet wide the scra [?] were rolled and put on the roof. They pulled the ruches and thatched the scrair [?] with they short rushes. This thatch was seem to the riobháns [?], they had a thacthing needle for doing this.
    When one coat of the rushes was seun [?] to the scrair [?] the house was then thatched with ruches and scallops. The scallops were made from twigs.
