The farm animals kept at my place at home are cows and calves and horses and Donkey and pigs and bonhams and dogs and cats The fowls are hen and chickens and ducks and turkeys and geese In Winter the cows are kept in the cow houses called a cród They are usually tied tail to tail with a vacant space between the tails This vacant space is hallow and the cows droppings fall into it Hay is placed at the cows heads as food and furze is used as bedding for them The cows are sometimes tied around or on the horns with ropes or spancels The spancels are made from the snair on the cows tails which is woven together into a nice hard rope withe a hook at one end and a buairicín at the other end The buaricin is made of timber it is about 2 1/2" long thick in the middle and tapering toward the ends The spancel is put about the cows necks or horns and the buaircins are put through the loop The cow is then tied When a cow calves the calf is usually given to the cow to lick It is claimed that the cow will milk better on account of this. The calves are fed with the newly calved cow milk The milk of the newly calved cow is called
