  1. Long ago there lived near Clonbanin cross a man name Thady Murphy who kept a very good clever greyhound. At that time there were no motor cars and the bread used to come from Milstreet twice a week with a horse and van.
Phoenix of the Hall was the greyhounds name and he knew right well the day the bread-van would come and he was sure to watch when the bread man would take in the bread to Curtins. He used to take a pair of bread and run away and eat it. Leader had a big party of landlords hunting at his place neat Banteer and they all having greyhounds. They had a prize for the best dog. Thade Murphy went there with a sugan on Phoenix's neck. He was the best dog there. He won the prize and his master brought him home to Clonbanin
