On Xmas morning people rose early so as to be in time for first Mass which was usually said about 7 o'clock in those days. Needless to say there were "sore heads" as the result of the heavy meal taken before going to bed. However, it was part of the Xmas celebration, and it was all taken in good part.
People always saluted each other on Xmas Day. The common Salutation was " The Compliments of the Saison to You " the reply was " The same to you, and may we be all alive and happy this time twelve months " OR " My Xmas gift on you" the answer was " Oh you'll get it! And my Xmas gift on you.
